Linny finished
her championsip with four majors including a 5, 4 and two 3 pointers.
She has also placed in Group.
Linny
broke a toe on her front foot as a puppy and her toe was sticking straight
up in the air. It eventually went back to normal and we entered her
in the Twin Cities Labrador Retriever Club for her first show. She won
her class at the specialty and the next day won Best of Winners at the
Land O' Lakes Kennel Club supported entry, for a 5 point major. (Her
litter sister Polly won Best of Breed over the #1 Labrador male in the
country.) She went on to win three more majors to finish her Championship
along with a Group 4.
Linny
isn't the happiest Labrador in the show ring but she does everything
right, except wag her tail. I handed her off to friends standing at
ringside for her first three specialty Best of Opposite Sex wins, because
I was showing her sister Polly. All I had to tell them was to point
her in the right direction and run along side her. When she stops she
squares herself up and always has her ears up and that beautiful expression.
She baits very well! Now if we could only get that tail moving...oh
well. We're working on it. It's funny, but the first person I asked
to show Linny at Winnebago, turned me down because Linny was completely
out of coat. When I went out to the ring to pull her number, the ring
steward told me to show her, it was a specialty, and she was here, so
I asked someone else and she said "she is bald, but the judge would
love her face". At the Twin Cities Lab Specialty the person I had
asked was a beginner, and she said she would do it but almost backed
out at the last minute. In Shawnee Mission the same thing almost happened,
I thought I was going to have to get someone else at the last minute.
At the National Labarador Specialty I was all set to take Polly in but
after watching what the judge was picking all day, decided to hand off
Polly instead because my helper was very tall and would look better
with Polly. The judge was picking smaller compact dogs. Well, it was
a very hot day and the judge was very thorough. It took a long time
in the ring, and I thought Linny was going to poop out on me. Linny
and I won, and what a thrill it was for me to be handling her myself
this time.
Linny
was bred to Ch. Langshott Galeforce from Kimvalley, and this breeding
produced L.C. (Cedar Springs Linen and Lace), Cedar Springs Life of
Riley, Cedar Springs Harris Tweed, Cedar Springs Ivory Cashmere, and
Cedar Springs Gunner of Birchpoint (already has 3 points,) who are all
specialty winners. Riley won first place at the WLRC, Cash won 2nd and
Gunner was 4th on the 6 - 9 month puppy class. Harris won first in the
6 - 9 month puppy class at the Puget Sound Labrador Retriever Club.
Cedar Springs Ivory Cashmere won BOB over specials from the Puppy Class.
I might add that all of their owners are beginners in the show ring.
